  • I. The GSR Aquacode
    • Go together when playing in, on or near water.
    • Stay afloat, roll on your back, relax and wave if in trouble in the water.
    • Reach out to rescue with a stick or throw a rope, do not get into the water if someone needs help.
  • II. Use of identifiable clothing and outdoor protective devices for aquatic safety providers
    • Wear red and yellow workplace uniform per ILS Lifesaving Position Statement LPS 05.
    • Use of sun protection devices and topical solutions consistent with ILS Medical Position Statement MPS 02.
  • III. Interpret standard water safety flags and signs
    • Hoisting of red over yellow flag and other water safety flags consistent with ISO 20712-1-2008.
    • Standardized Water safety signs consistent with ISO 20712-1-2008.
  • IV. Spot dangers of different aquatic environments
    • Dangers brought by currents, crumbling banks, uneven river beds and submerged obstacles in rivers, creeks and waterholes
    • Potential dangers in lakes, dams and lagoons.
    • Dangers of water bodies in farms, ponds, and swimming pool.
    • Potential dangers in home aquatic environments
  • V. Follow safety guidelines on different aquatic activities
    • Guidelines for swimming at swimming pools.
    • Guidelines for swimming at the beach.
    • Guidelines for swimming in waves.
    • Guidelines for swimming at a river.
    • Guidelines for safe fishing.
    • Guidelines for safe watercraft recreation.
    • Guidelines for safe surfing.
    • Guidelines for safe recreational diving and snorkeling.
    • Guidelines for the conduct of water safety education programs.
