About PDPC
The Philippine Drowning Prevention Council (PDPC) was created in July 2010 and formally launched in August 2011, De La Salle Zobel, Ayala, Alabang, Philippines. The PDPC is an NGO led consultative forum composed of strategic water safety organizations and related government agencies that will focus on presenting key drowning prevention issues to the government, industry and the community.
The PDPC does not stand for any level of organizational administration and it will not receive funding directly. The PDPC, however, will provide a collective voice for its stakeholders in the aquatic industry and coastal communities. It will maintain close relation with the Local Government Units (LGUs) and will work hand in hand with Philippine Government at all levels.
With the established Lifesaving Centers of Philippine Life Saving Society in the forefront of nationwide operations, the PDPC maintains focus on enhancing various Drowning Prevention Initiatives and building collaborations with authorities of LGUs and national government agencies as well as the non-government organizations (NGOs) particularly on the crafting of area specific Drowning Prevention Ordinances aligned with the nationally released Philippine Drowning Prevention Plan. These collaborations are critical in achieving goal in reducing deaths due to Drowning. Drowning was declared a Public Health Issue by WHO in 2015.
The World Health Organization (WHO) along with International Partners (ILS, RLSSA, SLSA, TASC, IDRC Bangladesh, Singapore Sports Council) and the Philippine Government had recognized efforts made by PDPC and its stakeholders as very crucial in realizing a countrywide vision of comprehensive water safety and drowning prevention awareness specifically the national aspiration in the formulation of Philippine Drowning Prevention Plan to serve as a strong directional five-year plan, ensuring bilateral support and oversight for successful implementation of its recommendations for the sake of Drowning Prevention.
Now, the PDPC had the pleasure in presenting to the Filipino public the Philippine Drowning Prevention Plan 2021-2025 with great expectation that by following the recommendations contained therein, will impact significant reduction of lives lost due to drowning and aquatic related incidents. Recommendations on Near-drowning prevention are also covered.
PDPC believes Drowning is preventable and Drowning is a Public Health Issue.
MISSION & VISION
The PDPC is committed for the enhancement of various Drowning Prevention Initiatives in the Philippines particularly the formulation of the Philippine Drowning Prevention Plan which will serve as a strong directional per five-year manual, ensure bilateral support and oversee the successful implementation of the recommendations therein.
TOWARDS “A DROWN-FREE PHILIPPINES”
In the Philippines, an alarming number of water-related deaths brought to convene The Philippine Drowning Prevention Council (PDPC) in 2011. As an NGO led council, the PDPC had formulated and released The Philippine Drowning Prevention Plan 2021-2025 in collaboration with the government and various stakeholders particularly the 28 PLS Lifesaving Centers nationwide whom had embraced largely its nationwide implementation.
The Philippine Drowning Prevention Plan 2021 – 2025 is SIMPLY about Saving Lives – a humanitarian undertaking devoted for the people and community in the Philippines.
