WATER SAFETY SYMPOSIUM (WSS)

Water Safety Symposium is an initiative of Philippine Life Saving to promote water safety and drowning prevention in schools and local communities. WSS disseminates aquatic safety information such as vital devotion to the Aqua Code, Water Safety best practices and Drowning Prevention Program like the “Keep Watch our children” which is presented for the youth and adults to advocate. Keep Watch Campaign focuses on four (4) key responsibilities for parents and guardians to Supervise Children, Restrict Access of a child to Water, Water Awareness and Learn Resuscitation.

SWIM AND SURVIVE (SAS)

Swim and Survive (SAS) is a program of the Royal Life Saving Society Australia duly endorsed to Philippine Life Saving for implementation in the Philippines. SAS aims to develop swimming, personal survival, water safety and basic rescue skills of all children ages 5-14 years to prevent drowning and increase safe participation at any aquatic sports and activities such as board riding, kayaking, skin diving and sailing. Done in Pools at schools and other aquatic locations by certified SAS Instructors, the program provides the essential strands for Safe Water Entries and Exits, Underwater and Body Orientation, Basic Rescue and Survival Skills, in addition to a process of developing strong and effective swimming technique. Swim and Survive is ‘Swimming for All Season.’

SPECIAL SWIM AND SURVIVE (SSAS)

An initiative by Philippine Life Saving that provides opportunity for Young Adults or Practitioners of Swim Teaching or Coaching to learn the wide range of SAS skills and become Lifesavers whom can move on either as certified SAS Instructor or may proceed to Bronze Medallion Rescue being the minimum competency required for Lifeguards worldwide. For Aspirant Instructors, SAS Course Wares and Teaching Methodology are being discussed thoroughly aside from the need of complying practicum requirements. SSAS program is for individual ages 15-35 years.

RESUSCITATION & EMERGENCY CARE (REC)

The Standard Lifesaving Support Certification Course by International Life Saving (ILS) for drowning and cardiac victims. REC provides participants the practical Lifesaving Technique for Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), First Aid and After Care. Topics include the Legal aspects of Resuscitation, Position Statements, ILCOR Recommendations, DRSABCD Action Plan, First Aid, Basic Oxygen Management, Automatic External Defibrillator (AED) and After Care.

BRONZE MEDALLION – POOL LIFEGUARD CERTIFICATION (BMPC)

The Bronze Medallion – Pool Lifeguard Certification confirms level ofknowledge, judgment, technique and physical ability required to carry out pool lifeguarding and safe water rescues. Bronze Medallion Rescue techniques and skills are integrated concurrently in Aquatic Rescues at various water environments. BMPC endorses the attainment of desired confidence level among Lifeguards through the conduct of physical and endurance competency tests and competition activities at the pool.

The Beach Lifeguard Certification assures performance attributes in public safety and lifeguarding responsibilities at the beach and surf. BLC develops competent lifeguards in terms of rescue and lifesaving skills focused on protection, safety and welfare of beach clients and other water safety end users. The program certifies the attainment of desired confidence level among lifeguards through the conduct of physical and endurance competency tests and competition activities at the beach.

INLAND WATER LIFEGUARD CERTIFICATION (IWLC)

Inland Open Water Lifeguard Certification endorses sound knowledge in public safety and lifeguarding responsibilities at Inland Open Water and aquatic venues where there is Swift Water like the rivers and lakes. The program equips lifeguards with necessary skills for handling Swift Water Rescues. ILC certifies the attainment of desired confidence level among lifeguards through the conduct of physical and endurance tests andcompetition activities at riverine venues.

SURF LIFEGUARD
CERTIFICATION (SLC)

Surf Lifeguard Certification covers a review on Beach and Beach Team Management, Beach Safety Operation, Risk Reduction and Community Relations, in addition to an in-depth study of the four (4) important phases of Lifesaving Practice: Prevention, Recognition, Rescue and Recovery. SLC endorses an enhanced knowledge and skills of Lifeguards to effectively participate in Aquatic Search and Rescue Operation. Advanced Lifesaving Techniques are introduced for preparedness at any surf emergency. SLC certifies the attainment of desired confidence level among lifeguards through the conduct of physical and endurance tests and competition activities at the Surf.

AQUATIC RESCUE CERTIFICATION

AQUATIC DISASTER RESPONSE & RESCUE SPECIALIST (ADRARS)

A highly specialized Disaster Preparedness Certification course for LGUbased Aquatic Rescue Teams focused at surf, non-surf and still water beaches and lakes or swift waters at floods, rivers and underwater. Strong skills in Survival Swimming, Bronze Medallion Rescue and Scuba Rescue Diving are required to participants of this course. Graduates of this program will be enlisted voluntarily to join high level aquatic disaster response operatives under Philippine Life Saving. ADRARS equips rescuers the necessary Swim and Survive skills including simulated practicum of different emergency scenarios for effective participation at any Aquatic Search and Rescue (SAR) operation.

K9 WATER RESCUE TEAM (K9WRT)

K9 Water Rescue Team consists of a Canine and a handler, both has successfully completed a formal training in K9 Water Rescue. The Canine and the handler work as a unit assigned to protect life on surf, non-surf and still water environments. Certification for operative K9 Water Rescue Team demonstrates capability in Lifeguarding Patrol and Rescue at shoreline station (Level 1); K9 Team Patrol and Rescue from on-board stations (Level 2); and K9 Rescue Team Rip Current Detection in Beaches, Rivers and Lakes (Level 3). Water rescue techniques like towing a drifting boat and bringing up a flotation device or rope to a drowning victim are vital skills of K9 Water Rescue Team.

RESCUE DIVER (CMAS)

Rescue Diver Certification endorses proficiency in Underwater Search, Rescue and Recovery. The program equips Divers with water-based skills and combined rescue techniques in an open-water environment using complete SCUBA equipment consistent with CMAS standard qualification requirement to include competence in using ILS recognized knots like the Reef Knot, Bowline, Single Carrick Bend and Roringstek. Rescue Diver CMAS is for rescuers ages over 18 years with current Bronze Medallion Lifesaver and Open Water CMAS Diver certificates.

SWIFT WATER RESCUE TECHNICIAN (SWRT)

Swift Water Rescue Specialist Certification is designed to meet technical knowledge and skill needs of water rescue teams for flood incidents. The course covers in-depth study on flood hydrology, dynamics, hazards, size-up and safety controls. Knots and Anchors for advanced mechanical advantage systems are included. Swim and Survive skills are necessary. Rigging Techniques, equipment selection, stretcher handling over swift water, low angle and tyrolean rope rescue systems are incorporated at rescue team building practicums. SWRT endorses competency in Aquatic SAR Operation Planning and Administration.
